Believe

Can you feel sure that something is true and doing so makes it true? That is, could belief become reality simply because you choose to make it so?

This is probably a stretch.  Making the impossible become possible is not a magical activity that is accomplished by a sweep of the wand.  However, attempting to elicit a change without believing it possible reduces the chance of success.

Trust in Yourself

Being sure something is true arises from a firm belief in your own judgment.  How you view your own reliability governs the strength of your belief and the intrinsic power of it.

Proceeding on the basis of blind faith can be risky and trusting in yourself without paying attention to reality could not only fail but also lead to negative consequences.

Self Doubt

It does make sense to temper your self-trust with a dose of doubt and some cynicism.   The trick is not to let self-doubt become the overriding factor in your decisions.

Doubt should be based on objective analysis to the greatest extent possible.  That is, where it makes sense to question whether something is true or whether you are able to make it true, this is best based on the supposition that is supported by some facts.

Accent the Positive

Having a strong belief and letting that drive your outcomes is really just a way to accent the positive.  Focus on the positive is far more likely to drive achievement of what you seek.

And for those that were wondering, this message of positivity is not brought to you by fox news.

Please join me in my mud puddle

Many of the conversations I  observe are about complaints.  It is a bit subjective, but I have come to the conclusion that gossiping and complaining are favorite topics among humans in general (human nature) This includes work colleagues and other acquaintances.

Metphorically speaking, if five people are walking and four of them fall into a dirty puddle, they are more likely to pull the fifth person (who is clean to this point) into the mud with them than anything else.

Choose your own behaviour

We are social animals and often hang together in groups.  This does not mean the group needs to drive your behaviour.

If you are having a chat with friends, colleagues or others and the discussion topic is depressing  (bitching and complaining) you should feel free to not participate or even leave, albeit respectfully.

Accentuate the positive

I am not sure exactly why but lately a line from a song in the movie “Mary Poppins” has been running through my head, simply – “accentuate the positive”.

What a great attitude.  Success is more likely to be achieved when you are looking/striving/focused on it, as opposed to complaining about lack thereof.

High Performing Teams

A key but often overlooked attribute of high performing teams is a unified approach to maintaining positivity.  Not only do the individuals on the team dance the feel good dance of the optimist, the whole team does it as an integrated whole.

So next time those friends of yours are trying to drag you into the mud puddle, resist firmly.  Keep your clothes clean.
