The mysteries of life

I heard a radio announcer today state their is not enough mystery in life.  This was in reference to a Bruce Springsteen song I did not catch the title of.

I am puzzled though.  For me life is an eternal mystery for which we have questions, then find answers followed by more questions and hopefully more answers.

The Purpose for Existence

The first and most basic part of human life that is difficult or impossible to understand or explain, at least with absolute confidence is the meaning of life.

That is, what is meant when we say we are living our lives.  Is there a defined purpose, can we choose any lifestyle, are goals and objectives open to our choosing or is there some commonality expected of the human race.

The Origin Story

Whether the human race evolved naturally, or was created by some powerful sentient being or as a result of the myriad of combinatory possibilities based on these core suppositions, is just not known.  I personally view it as an intriguing mystery.

The basic mystery of why a particular person was born at a specific time can be explained many ways but not proven absolutely, the mystery remains.

The question of finite or infinite life and the associated possibilities do not only fascinate me but also  I wonder if that mystery will ever be answered.

Not Enough Mystery in Life

And so the context of the radio announcers and Bruces contemplation on seeking greater mystery within our lives eludes me.

My life has an abundance of mystery for which I am truly thankful.  I believe in and of itself these mystery’s provide a solid reason to live and thrive seeking first the questions and then the answers.

Get Off – Jump!

Sometimes it is time to exit a situation.  Unfortunately, that is not always easy to do and if there is a sense of urgency it can be even more challenging.

Will you know when it’s the right time to jump from a moving train.  Is there ever a right time?  My opinion is there is always a right time to get off, although usually not when travelling at speed.   I would try to slow it down or wait until it slows down.

It’s Your Choice

Whatever the circumstances, whether career or family related or just personal preferences you always have the choice to terminate or exit.  Although sometimes it is a very hard choice to make and there can be tons of reasons to avoid the decision.

We do have a limited time in our earthly lives, being stuck in or carried along by a situation that is undesirable to us doesn’t make sense (i.e., in the context of life is short).

A messy exit is not recommended and if you realize it is time to make a change making the effort to plan how to effect the outcomes you seek with the least negative impact is the best approach.

Avoid Precipitous Action

You may feel is time to separate from your family or employer, shut down your business, even just add thrills to your life.   These are just some of the many examples of exits you may wish to undertake.

Making any of these changes precipitously (before you are sure it is the right thing) could cause more harm than good so do give it some thought before acting.

Taking a Chance

In our day to day lives we often consider the possibility of something happening or not (i.e., chance).  Sometimes this is an unconscious consideration and others it is a ponderous and lengthy thought process.

Chance is a key factor in determining how risky something is.  For example, the chance of a satellite falling from the sky and hitting you or destroying your house is infinitesimal and few if any of us consider mitigating that risk because it is so unlikely.

The thrill of life

Part of the thrill of living is taking chances, although for safety this is probably best practiced in a measured way.  I am not suggesting you go for the thrill of dancing with wolves (although if it is your cup of tea……).

However, life without stretching your limits can be dull and unenjoyable.  Those limits vary for each of us and for best personal results should be outside our comfort zone but not so far as to engender uncomfortably, pain or fear.

In short, when warranted, take the chance, go for it.

When Warranted?

The time to take a chance is a very subjective decision.  Many factors come into play ranging from risk of negative consequences to likelihood and magnitude of the pleasure, enjoyment and self satisfaction you anticipate.

Staying in your safe zone all the time is not the best way to take advantage of life.  Leaving your zone recklessly also has potentially unpleasant implications.

Making the choice to take a chance is good to do but a careful balance is recommended to avoid the less pleasant outcomes and accentuate the positive.
