Selling Yourself

As we move through our lives we regularly interact with others.  Unless you are a true full on hermit, in which case these comments don’t fully apply, although even a hermit has some interactions

It is through these interactions that we gain (get what we want) or lose (give up something) or just cruise (a neutral encounter with neither gain nor loss.)

In all these encounters there is just one constant, you.  Whether the experience is pleasant, full-filling, unpleasant, or just blah, you are a key factor in the result.

Inter Personal Communications

When interacting with others you are more likely to achieve your objective if you sell yourself in a positive light.  The point is not just to send a message (verbal or physical) and recieve one (listening, watching) ; more critcally it is to create receptivity.

This applies regardless of the type of communication.  If others trust and respect you it’s far more likely your point will be understood (at a minimum) and this understanding could lead to the result you seek.

Not Just about Getting Things

In the context about selling yourself, it is important to clarify this is not necessarily about material gain, (e.g., getting a job or a promotion) but more often just a satisfying result.

That is, going to coffee, chatting with others and leaving feeling better, more relaxed, happier.  You may not have recieved physical gratification but pleasure often is totally in your mind.

And the point

How others think about you is largely influenced by you.  Use your influence skills to make this a positive perception  (i.e., Making other have a positive perception of you is very a valuable part of your personal happiness equation.)
